Founder: Prof. J.N. Moorthy
About: Prof. J.N. Moorthy is the Director of IISER Thiruvananthapuram since April 2019. He is an organic chemist with interests in organic photochemistry, supramolecular chemistry, organic materials and mechanistic organic chemistry. He has been awarded the prestigious Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize and the J. C. Bose National Fellowship. He is an elected fellow of Indian Academy of Science (FASc.) and Indian National Science Academy (FNA), and a fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC).
Message from the Founder
Welcome to the CSIT student chapter. Our goal is to encourage curiosity, hands-on experimentation and communicate chemistry to a broader audience. We organise workshops, competitions and outreach events that blend fun with learning.
CSIT was inaugurated on 8th January 2021 by the Hon'ble Director of IISER TVM, Prof. J. N. Moorthy.
CSIT had its genesis in the visionary idea of Prof. J. N. Moorthy, an idea of connecting the student community with faculties and alumni across the globe to foster a network of chemists united in their passion for the field.

Dr. Basudev Sahoo
The first Faculty-in-Charge of CSIT, Dr. Sahoo provided foundational support and guidance to establish the student chapter. His mentorship was instrumental in organizing early activities and building the academic community that defines CSIT today.
Prof. Sukhendu Mandal
Former Head of School of Chemistry and early Faculty-in-Charge of CSIT. Prof. Mandal's leadership during the initial two years was crucial in establishing CSIT's academic programs and fostering student engagement in chemistry research and outreach.
Prof. Mahesh Hariharan
Professor of Chemistry specializing in Physical Organic Chemistry and Biophysical Chemistry. As former Head of School of Chemistry, Prof. Hariharan provided exceptional leadership and unwavering support to CSIT during its foundational years at IISER TVM.

Dr. Rajendra Kurapati
Faculty Coordinator
Dr. Rajendra Kurapati serves as the Faculty Coordinator of CSIT, bringing together students and faculty interested in chemistry outreach and research collaborations. His research focuses on biomaterials, materials chemistry, 2D materials, biodegradation of nanomaterials, nanotoxicology, drug delivery, antimicrobial coatings, and biomimetics. He leads the Biomaterials Lab at IISER TVM, where cutting-edge research in biomaterial applications is conducted.

Prof. Ajay Venugopal
Head of Department
Prof. Ajay Venugopal serves as the Head of Department, School of Chemistry at IISER TVM. He is a Professor specializing in Main Group Chemistry, leading the Main Group Chemistry Lab. His expertise lies in the synthesis and characterization of novel main group compounds with applications in catalysis and materials science. Under his leadership, the School of Chemistry has grown significantly, fostering excellence in both teaching and research.
